Update 8.18: new DDNS system, much improved installer

We just fully released a new dynamic DNS system and a much improved new version of the installer for the Amahi Linux Home Server.

updates

The new dynamic DNS system is fully automatic and does not require configuration files. It also has other major advantages, in that it blends into the Amahi API.

The new installer is a major improvement:

  • it checks that the user is logged in as root, printing a message for users that are not
  • it sets the proper PATHs so that even users with bare paths (not running as “full root”) can run it.
  • the messages sent out are more user friendly, indicating more clearly what it’s installing: mysql setup, installing RPMs, installing ruby gems, configuring services, etc.
  • it creates a detailed log file that can be used for further debugging in case anything goes wrong

This should make installing Amahi a breeze!
