Wake-on-LAN falls from the sky, no one injured. Go World Cup!

It was one of those brilliant things in life…

Funny things happen in FOSS communities, and Amahi is no exception!

It was a normal to quiet day on the Amahi Community Channel, when an un-named regular said:

“You know what would be cool? a “Wake” button, next to each entry in the Static IPs page.”

Wake-on-LAN (or WOL), standard that allows a computer to be magically turned on or woken up by a network message.

The community wheels really kicked into motion when other team members started searching for icons to use in the dashboard while many others tested some code. Then, before long, the team had a working platform with the new WOL feature to be released in the next update!

Amahi is taking long strides to bring your network back to the land of the free! This is but another step on our path to bring you the best that Amahi can offer!

The World cup championship is this weekend. We hate to pick sides! Really we do! But if we had to well … Our Spain supporters argued that our long term logo had been supporting the Netherlands all along with all that orange, so we decided to give a nudge to Spain for a few days 🙂

Amahi-Spain

OK, we’re a bit biased, as the core team is partly formed by one spaniard 🙂

So sit back, relax, and enjoy friendly competition while two great teams battle each other for the coveted World Cup Trophy!

Cheers!

The Amahi Team

Six weren’t enough? Here’s 4 more apps: AjaxChat, WebChess, Scientific Calculator and RNews

The Development Team keeps on rocking!

Due to the amazing efforts of the Testing Team we have applications ready for immediate release for Amahi.

We have an outstanding RSS reader for the person who always has to be “in the know,” an easy to use Scientific Calculator, a chess program and a out of this world chat client!

Rnews Rnews
Rnews server-side web-based AJAX-enabled RSS/Atom feed aggregator/news tracking tool. It can manage your hundreds of RSS and Atom feeds from your server. If you don’t know what that is, it’s like Google Reader, however, it’s hosted by you and open source.

Ajax ChatAjax Chat
AJAX Chat is a free and fully customizable open source web chat software implemented in JavaScript, PHP and MySQL. It’s basically a way to have a quick private chat room for a small network. Sound support is implemented using Flash, Socket support using Flash on client-side and Ruby on server-side.

Scientific Calculator Scientific Calculator
Scientific Calculator is just like the hand-held one, but it runs directly in your browser. A scientific calculator is a type of electronic calculator designed to calculate problems in science (especially physics), engineering, and mathematics. They have almost completely replaced slide rules in almost all traditional applications, and are widely used in both education and professional settings. If you are in a small lab, or design shop or have kids in high school, this may come in handy!

WebChess WebChess
WebChess is an open source chess application which will allow you to play chess over the internet. Many of the key features include: Graphical user interface, No client download or java – will operate through firewalls, Persistent Games, and more!

CoolsmileCoolsmile

Coolsmile is a java based web irc client that will allow you to connect to irc from your hda web interface.

MantisMantis
MantisBT is a popular web-based bugtracking system.

It is written in the PHP scripting language and works with MySQL, MS SQL, and PostgreSQL databases and a webserver. MantisBT has been installed on Windows, Linux, Mac OS, OS/2, and others. Almost any web browser should be able to function as a client.

New Apps! vnStat, Ajaxterm and LinPHA

After another round of awesome testing by the Testing Team we are proud to announce the release of new applications for Amahi.

We have a bandwidth monitor app, just in case you want to keep tabs on your internet download cap to keep in check, a nice web-based secure shell (SSH) terminal and a good looking photo gallery app.

Read on for more!

vnstatvnStat
vnStat is a tool which is simple to setup and capable of monitoring your incoming and outgoing bandwidth usage. The default port monitored is eth0, however this may be changed manually.

The output allows you to see the bandwidth you’ve used in a variety of ways, such as by hour, by day, etc. Also, as a bonus it doesn’t require the use of root privileges once it has been installed.

AjaxtermAjaxterm
Ajaxterm is a web based ssh terminal emulator. It was totally inspired and works almost exactly like Anyterm

Ajaxterm is written in python (and some AJAX javascript for the client side) and depends only on python2.3 or better.

Ajaxterm provides a quick way to access the command line interface on your HDA. No more opening putty or a command prompt, it will all be contained in the browser!

One word of caution is that you should set up https for this app to be fully secure.

LinPHALinPHA
LinPHA is an easy to use, multilingual, flexible photo/image archive/album/gallery written in PHP. It uses a MySQL database to store information about your pictures. It’s available as a one-click install, so you don’t even have to run the web-based installer.

This photo gallery application generates thumbnail images on the fly and stores statistical data about images and comments from visitors in a MySQL database.

Many thanks to all the contributors and testers for all your hard work creating and testing apps!
